Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull must dread picking up the morning paper these days. In fact he probably gets his security guy to check it first and then asks “Should I bother?”
Successive scandals of Comminsure, the Liberal electoral slush fund and UNAOIL have all shone an accusing light on the Australian PM and his multi millions. It’s not that he has done anything wrong, it’s guilt by association. The corporate and political cronies that are mired in these, at worst, illegal practices and, at best, unethical behaviours are Malcolm’s kind.
The knowledge that our PM rakes in bag loads of his personal wealth through tax minimization does not sit well with many Australians. The more companies that are exposed for engaging in greedy money harvesting, the more difficult it becomes for Malcolm to defend his excessive wealth to the electorate.
Kevin Andrews’ grenade about challenging for the PM’s job was probably laughed off as Malcolm downed his orange juice but news of the Panama Papers probably caused him to choke on his Weeties.
With the ATO now investigating some 800 Australian individuals and companies connected to the scandal the PM must be quaking in his boots. The last thing he wants is to hear of any firm or person connected to the Liberal party coming into the spotlight. The odds are that they will. I can hear Bob Ellis laughing now.
